Description

What would help you to feel healthier and happier? What support do you want from your GP? Are you interested in how the NHS chooses which community services to provide in North London? Or how voluntary and community organisations work with the NHS? What would make your job as a health professional supporting people to care for themselves more do-able? How can we work together to create a system that works for everyone?

We will explore all these things as we reimagine self-care and social prescribing in North London, bringing together local residents and the voluntary sector to work with the NHS and local government. With a focus on groups of GP practices called ‘Care Closer to Home Integrated Networks’ or ‘CHINs’, we will look at how different people and organisations come together in North London to create a system of care in communities – looking at what works locally and across North London.

The meeting follows on from an initial sector-wide partnership session in September, which looked more broadly at opportunities for collaboration on self-care and social prescribing. We are convening a group of local people, voluntary organisations, the NHS and local government from five boroughs: Enfield, Haringey, Camden, Islington and Barnet. You are invited!

Background

According to the Self Care Forum, self-care is: The actions that individuals take for themselves, on behalf of and with others in order to develop, protect, maintain and improve their health, wellbeing or wellness.

Building Health Partnerships: This is part of a national programme called ‘Building Health Partnerships’ (BHP), which provides funded support to enable Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships (STPs) to engage with the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector and citizens on wellbeing and self-care priorities.

Jointly funded by NHS England and the Big Lottery Fund and delivered in partnership by Social Enterprise UK and the Institute for Voluntary Action Research (IVAR) the programme will run from April 2017 to June 2018.

Our area was successful in bidding for this support which will help us all to work together in developing our existing strengths, particularly with citizens and the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector.

The BHP programme takes a dual focus combining relationship building with agreeing and implementing joint action. STP areas in the programme will be able to access a mixture of facilitated support, expert input, links to other networks and initiatives and communications expertise.

The programme is intended to support STPs to more effectively engage with all the providers and people necessary to meet their plan objectives. For more details see here.
