Event description

Description

27 June, 2018 at Birmingham City University

Reimagining Further Education is proud to welcome Professor Emeritus Frank Coffield to launch this third annual conference with the theme Making teaching and learning the first priority. Additional inspiration will be provided by keynote speakers Ali Hadawi CBE, Principal of Central Bedfordshire College; and Jo-Fletcher Saxon & Brian Copper, Vice Principals of Ashton Sixth Form College.

#ReimagineFE18 only begins with the speakers; the real work is done in 7 Working Groups which are organised around key areas of FE. Rather than passively listening to presentations, you will engage in professional dialogue to reimagine how we can put teaching and learning back into the heart of FE. The emphasis is on concrete strategies to move the national discussion forward. The visions of each group will be published in a special edition of the open access CSPACE Journal.

When booking tickets, you will choose a single Working Group with whom you will remain for both the morning AND afternoon sessions. While we appreciate that you may be interested in more than one group, this format allows delegates to develop a solid partnership capable of identifying barriers and devising approaches to overcome them, both in their own practice as well as when engaging policy makers.

Coffee/tea on arrival, lunch and afternoon coffee/tea are included in the ticket price.

Brief descriptions of the Working Groups appear below; more detailed information can be found at our website: https://reimaginefe.wordpress.com/working-groups/

FAQs

Is there parking?

Public parking is available at Millennium Point and is charged by the hour.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Please email Suzanne Savage.

How do I sign up for more than one Working Group?

Unlike other conferences where you may attend several different sessions, Reimagining Futher Education is built around the idea of Working Groups which stay together for both the morning and afternoon sessions. While this does limit the amount of topics you can participate in, this format facilitates stronger group cohesion and greater depth of dialogue to reimagine key areas of further education.

What is the criteria for bursaries?

There are a limited number of bursaries available to FE and ACL practitioners whose employing organisations will not fund them to attend the conference. Please send a brief email to Suzanne Savage explaining your position, the Working Group your are interested in and what you hope to contribute to the conference. Note that bursaries are for the ticket cost only and do not reimburse the costs of travel.
