Event Title

Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood Resource – Launch Event

Focus Area

A new Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood (RSHP) online resource has been designed to support anyone working with children and young people who may have a responsibility to teach or provide wider learning opportunity outside the classroom. The resource will support delivery of RSHP from age 3 to the end of the senior phase.

Evaluations have shown that there is much about RSHP that children and young people like. However, learners also identify shortfalls in key areas such as the breadth of topics, relevance to the pressures they face in current-day relationships and a sense that RSHP is occasionally tagged on to learning opportunities, or given low priority.

With this in mind, there is a need to reflect on how the provision of RSHP ensures that all learners needs are met in a changing context, whether that is in terms of concerns we may have for children and young people – the influence of pornography, gender stereotyping, negative experiences of social media or partnerships which involve imbalances in power or even violence – or positive cultural shifts such as a better understanding of the rights of learners with disabilities, or LGBT+ young people.

This launch event will also provide the opportunity for delegates to network and build connections with local partners to help build knowledge and understanding of the local context for children and young people to support them to have positive, healthy relationships.
