Event description
Do you find it hard to relax sometimes? Our Relaxation Skills workshop teaches practical ways to relax and manage stress in everyday life.

About this Event

A free class teaching simple but effective ways to feel calmer day to day.

Our class is based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, so will give you an insight into how stress or worry affects your mind and body. We then teach 3 practical relaxation techniques that you can use in daily life to relax your body and calm your mind.

It's not a physical class - so you can wear your normal clothes - and all the techniques we teach are done seated. In fact, the key thing about these techniques is that you can use them almost anywhere, whenever you need to take a moment.

Past attendees have told us they use these techniques in the car after dropping the kids off at school, at work before going into a big meeting, or in bed to help sleep.

At this class you'll learn:

  • The Cognitive Behavioural Therapy model of how our thoughts, emotions, actions, and physical symptoms are linked.
  • How relaxation techniques can help to break a vicious cycle of stress or worry.
  • A controlled breathing technique, to help you slow down and feel calmer in difficult situations.
  • A technique called Progressive Muscle Relaxation, to help release the tension and tightness in your body after a stressful day.
  • A visualisation technique, to help clear your mind and take a break from thinking about that to-do list.

From italk, your local talking therapy service. We're a partnership between Solent Mind and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust. This class, and all our other services are free of charge.
