Relief Printing ONLINE workshop
Event Information
About this Event
As we are unable to run our weekly, teen art session 'Re-stART' we would like to invite those aged 13 - 17 years old, to join us for a Relief Printing Workshop.
Relief printing is when you carve into a printing block (this can be made out of Lino, Wood, Polystrene or other materials) that you then use to press onto paper and make a print. The parts that you carve into the printing block will not have ink on them and will not show up on your paper, so the print will be a mirror image of what you see on your printing block.
It's so simple that anyone can have a go. Feel free to get a friend or family member to join in with you, (adhering to current social distancing, of course). Join in the live streaming on Facebook or follow the online tutorial which will be emailed to you.
This is a fully-funded workshop organised by Nucleus Arts as part of their Re-stART programme. The workshop is for those aged 13 -17-years-old. Please only book for someone in that age category. Only one booking per person, please.
How it works and what you'll get:
You'll be sent a piece of polystyrene in the post but if you have any clean flat pieces at home you can use these too.
What you need:
• Polystyrene (sent to you in the post) or some pizza bases, plates or containers made of polystyrene. You can also buy polystyrene blocks or rolls.
•Slightly watered-down acrylic paint (or you can use Water-based printing ink if you have some). High contrast colours work best!
• An apron.
• Something to roll the paint or ink onto – a paint tray, a flat, plastic board, a piece of cardboard or paper plate.
• Something pointy (but not too sharp) to carve into the polystyrene – a blunt pencil, a knitting needle, a ballpoint pen with a lid on it, or the end of a paintbrush.
• A rolling pin (or rubber roller if you have one) but this isn't vital.
• Paper or card – the flatter it is, the better.
• Table cloth or newspaper to cover your work area.
