Event description

Description

Since time immemorial, humans have shed the blood of others. Sometimes for honour, sometimes for wealth, we have committed untold brutalities. Nowhere better is this seen than in our modern Age, from the First World War to the Syrian crisis.

The idea that religion is the sign of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, the soul of a soulless conditions and the opium of the masses, and as such is the principal cause of conflict and war is receiving a wider and wider audience. On the other hand religious adherents cry that the brutality committed in the name of the Creator is anathema to the Creator Himself. Which is the truth? Is extremism the inevitable result of returning to the original teachings of religion, or are other factors at play—factors rooted in injustice, poverty and religious illiteracy?

At this landmark event we pose the question: Is religion aninstigator or a peacemaker in conflicts and divisions in society? To address such issues, religious leaders from various faiths and scholars will be join us, to plumb the depths of history, theology and politics, in what promises to be an enjoyable and enlightening evening.
