The opening concert for our centenary season reflects on the events surrounding the start of World War I and that sowed the seeds of what was to become Wimbledon Choral Society. You can read about this in more detail on the History page of our website.
The very first work performed in March 1915 after the formal establishment of the choir was Dvorak's Stabat Mater. Tonight's programme includes Dvorak's Mass in D, John Ireland's Greater Love and readings of some of the poems written during and about the devastation of World War I, including some by Wilfred Owen (pictured). These will be narrated by actress Emily Bevan.
Please note ... the change in venue from that advertised originally and in the season brochure. It is now at St Anne's Church in Wandsworth.
