About this event

Remembering Sean Rigg 17 Years on

Join MARCIA RIGG at The Advocacy Academy to honor her brother Sean, 17 years on after his tragic death in police custody. Sean died in Brixton Police Station on 21st August 2008, aged 40, following a mental health emergency and prolonged excessive restraint by officers, similar to the way George Floyd died in the US, which sparked Black Lives Matter protests across the world.

There have been many deaths like George Floyd in the UK for decades, causing uprisings and trauma to the communities affected.

The fight so far for justice has been a long and painful journey, with no proper accountability for Sean's death. A new film 'My Brother's Keeper' - a true story by Marcia Rigg, will depict some of that journey, together with a short film about Sean growing up, followed by talks and interacions with the audiance, nibbles and drinks.

A time to learn, reflect and heal using films, photos and discussions regarding the impact of Sean's death to his family and the community.

Let's come together to keep his memory alive and continue the fight for justice. See you there!
