Event description

Description

This workshop is about raising awareness of the 1995 Srebrenica genocide which saw 8372 men and boys murdered in the greatest atrocity on European soil since WW2. Within the space of a week in July 1995, 8372 mostly Muslim men and boys were murdered by Bosnian Serb forces in an act of genocide. The workshop will explore what happened, what lessons can be learnt and how important it is to prevent prejudice before it turns into hatred and violence.

It will be run by Balbir Sohal who has recently returned from visiting Srebrenica and has wide experience in teaching and training.

This event is organised by the United Nations Association Coventry Branch on behalf of the Coventry Peace & Justice Forum coventrycityofpeace.uk/pj-forum/

She will also share the work of 'Remembering Srebrenica', an initiative of the Birmingham charity 'Ummah Help' to organise UK events for the EU-designated Srebrenica Memorial Day which takes place annually on 11 July. The project's main aim is to tackle hatred and intolerance and help build a better, safer and more cohesive society for everyone by using the example of the Srebrenica.
