Led by Dr Teresa Degenhardt from Queen's University Belfast
Join this session at the Queen's Film Festival, where attendees can watch the short animated film Removed looking at immigration detention, followed by opportunity to hear and discuss with Aminata Kolokoh - of the UK based network Avid (association of volunteers of immigration detention) and some local activists.
The issue of migrants is very often debated in the public arena. How does immigration detention work ? Did you know that Northern Ireland has an immigration detention facility in Larne? Do you wish to know how migrants are treated? What are the difficulties they face or women* in particular may face?
This event will provide an opportunity to learn what it means for migrants of different genders to be detained there and to explore the harm of this system of detention and deportation.
This is open to everyone with an interest on immigration detention and its harms. This will be of particular interest to activists, politicians, policy makers and influencers.
