Renaissance Reborn

A Student Conference at the University of Sheffield

Humanities Research Institute

Weds 3rd May 2017

The Renaissance, its culture, texts, and artefacts continue to be creatively engaged with today. Contemporary authors such as Margaret Atwood and Hilary Mantel, popular series including The Borgias and Versailles, testify to its enduring imaginative and historical appeal. But what is the attraction? How do later writers and critics engage with Renaissance texts, and how are they ‘reborn’ for contemporary audiences? How might the Renaissance signify in our cultural imaginary? What are its popular myths and misconceptions?

This conference is open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students
