Event description

Description

Tragic Carpet Visual Theatre Company in partnership with Freedom from Torture Edinburgh would like to invite you to the preview launch of RENDITION. The event will provide the opportunity to visit the installation within the gallery, meet the creative team and view the accompanying, immersive performance. The recent development of this work has been funded by Sheffield University and the earlier research and development process funded by Creative Scotland. Early exploratioin was supported by Edinburgh palette.

Using an innovative mix of puppetry, projections and soundscapes Tragic Carpet’s powerful, immersive work, RENDITION, tells the story of one man’s nightmare experience as the first suspect to be taken into the CIA’s detention programme. The installation materials are visualisation of the data contained within The Rendition Project - a collaborative research project led by Professor Ruth Blakeley of Sheffield University and Dr Sam Raphael of Westminster University. It is anticipated that Professor Blakeley will be able to attend and discuss these issues.

At a time when we await the outcome of a Scottish police investigation into the use of Scottish airports for rendition, and after the UK Intelligence and Security Committee published a devastating report into the extent of British involvement in torture, many issues remain unresolved”. Professor Ruth Blakeley

Freda O’Byrne’s radical new production uses detailed, up to the minute academic research findings to visualise the human rights violations committed by US and UK governments in the aftermath of 9/11. It is planned to tour this production throughout Scotland in Autumn 2020.
