About this event
Renewable Energy Breakfast w/ Lisa Treseder (Kensa Utilities)
Lisa Treseder is Senior Project Manager at Kensa Utilities and is leading on the £8.7 million Heat the Streets project, which has received £6 million in funding through the European Regional Development Fund. The project will deliver subsidised ground source heat pumps to 500 homes, many located within the off-grid village of Stithians, to create a sustainable ‘heat pump village’. The project will deliver an innovative business model to enable uptake of heat pumps at scale. A communal network of underground pipework will extract renewable heat via clusters of boreholes, drilled to depths of up to 190m. Although connected to the communal system, each home will receive its own ground source heat pump, offering residents full control over the heating and hot water in their own home.
Kensa Utilities considers this renewable heating infrastructure a 21st-century equivalent to the gas network, and the key to enabling every home on an individual street to switch from fossil fuels to a clean, green ground source heat pump. By removing the expense of the ground array, Kensa is mimicking long-standing ‘split ownership’ arrangements in the gas sector with the underground infrastructure owned and maintained separately from the heat pump installed inside the properties.
The project will be used as a blueprint to demonstrate how ground source heating could be made accessible on a large scale across the country.
There will be an opportunity to network in small groups with colleagues from across the sector both before and after the talk. The event will run on Zoom and is interactive – please ensure you have a working camera and microphone to take part.
