Event description

Description

A practical, interactive workshop to learn what data and information you need to collect and how to collect it in order to report back to the funder.  This is about monitoring and evaluation.

If you have been awarded external funding, congratulations!  You will, however, quickly realise that being awarded the funding for a good project idea does not guarantee that you will be given all the money. Funding is often given in stages.  You need to be able to prove what difference your project is making at each stage in order to be given the money.  This includes showing that you are making progress towards achieving the outcomes and also measuring the outcomes themselves.

It is therefore vital to set up good monitoring and evaluation systems from the very beginning of your project.  Good systems will also help you to collect the evidence you need in order to write your next, successful funding bid.

Who is it for?

The workshop is aimed at Not For Profit (charity, voluntary, community, social enterprise, third sector) organisations that:

  • have recently been advised of a successful grant funding application and/or

  • have started delivery of an externally funded project and/ or

  • want to know how to collect information and evidence to support future bids

It is suitable for everyone involved at different stages of the monitoring and evaluation process, from those collecting the information or data to those responsible for analysing it and presenting it to external funders, donors and their own Board.

This could include employed staff at any level, volunteers and Trustees / Board members.

What will delegates get out of it?

By the end of the workshop, delegates will:

  • understand the difference between monitoring and evaluation and when to use each

  • have had the opportunity to work through practical examples and to apply their knowledge to their own bid or project idea

  • have knowledge of the types of data and information that can be collected and ideas about how it can be collected

  • take away a Delegate Pack that can be used immediately and in the future

Delegates will get the most out of the workshop if they come with a particular funding bid (past, draft or recently submitted) or a specific project in mind.  This will help to focus the practical exercises.
