Event description

Description

Part of Repowering Britain, a series of events organised by the Labour Energy Forum in collaboration with Platform London, for the 2017 Labour Conference fringe.

With Rachael Maskell MP (Shadow Transport Minister ), Leonie Cooper AM, Manuel Cortes (General Secretary TSSA), Cat Hobbs (We Own It), Anna Galkina (Platform)

Urban transport will change dramatically in the next two decades. The internal combustion engine will disappear, individual car ownership could shrink, and our streets might be populated by vehicles without drivers. What kind of jobs will this transport sector provide? Will companies like Uber own and control the automated cars - or can the 21st century see a rise in democratic public ownership?

Labour needs an ambitious vision for the future that places clean, affordable and publicly-owned transport at the heart of technological transformation.

Repowering Britain is a space for bold left visions for a transformed economy, society and energy system. We will bring together thinkers and doers from across the Labour Party and trade union movement to discuss what our country should look like in 10, 20, 30 years. The Party’s manifesto has inspired millions. We will build on that to envision a reindustrialised and democratised economy that addresses the climate crisis and hands back control. Click here for the full programme of events.

Accessibility information: Our venue is wheelchair-accessible from the street. Unfortunately the toilets are located in the basement down a spiral staircase. Toilets are gendered male and female. Sound will be amplified. We are investigating supplying a T-Loop. We are not able to offer sign language interpreting. Free creche for children accompanying adults with Labour Conference passes is provided at Conference. If you have any enquiries about access needs that aren’t covered here, please email info@labourenergy.org with the subject line ‘Access’.
