Research Abstracts

How do you get your research to reach beyond academia?

Social science research often focusses on issues in society that are thought to be problematic in some way by some sector, or community, or even by several different interest groups. The aim of this training workshop is to help researchers think about, and gain the attention of, the potential groups in the community outside of academic life who could be interested in that research.

We will be using the ‘research abstract’ as a vehicle for creating those links. Such documents need to be written to ‘engage’ with a targeted community, and they need to report research in such a way that readers can grasp the main points of the research and why it matters to them. The training session will help you write headlines that grab the reader, and shape the abstracts that will inform them to use your research.

The session will be tutored by Jess Winterstein (from LSE’s press office) and Mary Morgan (LSE professor and Vice President for Publications at the British Academy)

Refreshments will be provided.
