Overview

In this workshop participants will learn about basic principles of effective data management, including the FAIR data principles, practicing open science, data formats and the practicality of detailed data management plans.

They will also learn about online resources and tools that can assist with managing research data. As part of the learning, participants will also be introduced practically to OpenRefine.

Target audience

This workshop is ideal for a range of people interested in the management of research data. People who would definitely benefit from participating include the following:

  • Researchers and other academic staff, including lecturers
  • People working in library information services, archiving and research support
  • Students

Learning outcomes

  • Become aware of basic research data principles
  • Engage on challenges in research data management for researchers and support personnel
  • To know why data management plans are important and how it can facilitate your research
  • Connect with colleagues also conducting research

What the workshop will cover

Aspects that will be covered will include looking for data, digitisation, what the FAIR principles are and so much more!

The structure of each day will include discussions and practical sessions.

Additional information

  • Participation in the workshop is FREE. However, a no-show fee will be applied for non-attendance.
  • Accommodation and transport for participants’ own account.
  • Participants are expected to bring their own laptops for the afternoon sessions; wifi access will be provided.
  • A light lunch and tea breaks will be provided on the workshop days.
  • Space is limited to the first 70 participants that register.
  • This event can only be attended in-person.
