About this event

This webinar aims to prepare staff to act as examiners for a PhD candidate, both at Liverpool John Moores University (in the Internal Examiner role) and elsewhere (as an External Examiner). Delivered by experienced examiners, the session provides information on processes, procedures and approaches, as well as acting as a forum for discussion and sharing practice.

The workshop will:

  • Give you an overview of the process and policy examining Research Degrees at LJMU;
  • Ensure you are aware of roles and responsibilities of internal and external examiners;
  • Receive guidance from experienced examiners on a range of possible scenarios and outcomes.

Who might attend?

This workshop is for academic staff undertaking the role of internal or external examiner of a doctoral thesis for the first time. The workshop is also suitable for supervisors whose prior experience is of a different doctoral examination model (such as the Australian or European system). It may also be of assistance to supervisors preparing their students for examination.

The workshop takes place online - joining instructions will be sent to participants 24 hours beforehand.
