Description

Research Ethics Workshop

Morally and legally, the University of Lincoln, and the world beyond, demand that all research is conducted to the highest ethical standards, following the policies and procedures of both the University and other bodies responsible for the oversight of research.  The aim of this session is to introduce the principles that lead to ethically conducted research, from the inception of the research question to the dissemination and storage of that research, the processes and procedures that facilitate this and the consequences of failing to adhere to these principles.

Ethically conducted research encompasses, amongst other things, an understanding and acknowledgement of the wider consequences of your research; the avoidance of harm to people and the environment; the limiting of risk to participants, users and researchers; the prohibition of dishonesty (eg. plagiarism, falsification, fraud, deception, etc.); the concepts of respect, sensitivity, informed consent, privacy/confidentiality, and more.

By the end of the session, through example and discussion, you should have an understanding of the main issues in conducting ethical research and what is expected of you as an academic researcher to achieve this.
