Event description

Description

How can your research be heard in the UK Parliament?

The UK Parliament uses research and academic knowledge to inform scrutiny and legislation.

Academics can help to ensure that the decisions that affect people’s lives are taken with the best available evidence.

This interactive event will cover the following areas, with lots of opportunities for questions:

  • The difference between the UK Parliament and UK Government
  • How the UK Parliament uses research
  • Contacting MPs and members of the House of Lords
  • Working with Select Committees

Using Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology research into the 2014 REF case studies, this event will also discuss how academics are having impact in Parliament and give practical advice and information about how to get involved.

The event includes afternoon tea and a chance to network following the training.

There is an attendance fee of £40, including VAT. The fee includes refreshments and an afternoon tea. If this fee is a barrier to your attendance, please contact us; we may make exceptions in some circumstances.

Please note that this event is aimed at academics and researchers. If you would like a free community workshop about how the UK Parliament works and how you can get involved, please contact the Outreach and Engagement Service directly or complete our Community workshop booking form.

Any queries may be addressed to the Houses of Parliament Universities Programme at universities@parliament.uk or on 0207 219 8711.
