Research Seminar with Professor Sonia Alvarez

Professor Sonia Alvarez works on social movements and protest politics, comparative and transnational feminisms, and Latin American politics and cultures, with a focus on Brazil and the Southern Cone.
Her recent (co-edited) books include: Translocalities/Translocalidades: Feminist Politics of Translation in the Latin/a Américas. She edited two books with Arturo Escobar: Cultures of Politics/Politics of Cultures: Re-visioning Latin American Social Movements (Boulder, CO: Westview Press, 1998),and The Making of Social Movements in Latin America: Identity, Strategy, and Democracy, (Boulder, CO: Westview Press, 1992).
At King’s DID, Prof. Alvarez will discuss her latest edited volume, still in press: Beyond Civil Society Agenda: Activism, Participation, and Protest in Latin America. Chapters from this book will be circulated before the seminar.
