This innovative programme that has been designed to equip postgraduate research students with the skills required for doctoral study, and provides a unique opportunity to join a community of researchers as they embark on this challenging yet stimulating journey.
Key aims of the programme are to raise awareness of the wide range of methodologies and practical strategies used by researchers, to foster an appreciation for academic diversity and to offer a relaxed environment for networking and personal development. During the sessions a variety of research approaches and specific methods will be introduced along with a consideration of issues such as criticality, ethics and the dissemination of research outcomes.
Although the course is non-credit bearing, postgraduate research students are encouraged to participate in the programme to get to know other researchers in an atmosphere of mutual learning.
The details of the programme are currently being finalised, but it will address the following topics:
- Philosophy of research and epistemological frameworks.
- Reflection and criticality.
- Research design and designing research questions.
- Research ethics.
- Quantitative methods.
- Qualitative methods.
- Public engagement with research.
- Accessing research information.
There There will also be an opportunity for an excursion/study visit mid-week.
