Description

Researching Social Media: A Theoretical and Practical Overview

This workshop is addressed to researchers from different research areas that interested in social media research and effective usage. Divided in three parts, the workshop adopts an interdisciplinary approach, combining inputs from the organizers’ different backgrounds:

  • The first part will introduce the theoretical background of social media, so as to underline their dynamic as a whole new area of practice, of study and of research, at a time when digital reality is decreasingly separated from the non-digital one.

  • The second part will consist of a hands-on approach on a variety of social media research tools, highlighting as much the quantitative aspect of researching digital environments as the qualitative. Analytical tools include NodeXL, Chorus, Mozdeh, TAGS, and DiscoverText.

  • Finally, the workshop will look at the different ways social media could be used for enhancing researchers’ academic profile.

* The event is hosted by the Postgraduate Research Faculty Forum and is going to take place at the iSpace, at the Information School.

* Refreshments and lunch are included
