You are invited to celebrate the launch of a new research methods book for Youth Studies scholars. Researching with Young People: an Introduction to Youth-Centred Research Methods is a collaborative endeavour between five international Youth Studies researchers: Dr Frances Howard, Dr Benjamin Hanckel, Dr Karenza Moore, Dr Janina Suppers and Dr Sophie Atherton.
The book features 8 thematic chapters including talking and listening, placemaking, co-production, co-authorship, ethnography, creative methods, digital methods and ethics. Also contributing to this book are twenty case study authors whose practical examples of research with young people brings the thematic chapters to life.
We are pleased to be able to celebrate the inclusion of so many innovative and emerging research approaches from a diverse range of scholarly disciplines.
This event will introduce the key themes of the book and in particular focus on the five principles of undertaking research with young people. These principles run throughout the eight thematic chapters and connect the case studies in engaging and though-provoking ways.
The event will be opened by Prof Robert MacDonald, Honorary Professor, Department of Sociology, Durham University, UK and Co-editor in Chief, Journal of Youth Studies.
There will be presentations from five of the case study authors to give a flavour of the book:
· Knowledge-Making via Collaborative Podcasting, Dr Parinita Shetty
· Precarious Hope: Reflections on Student and University Researcher Co-Authorship, Dr Caitlin Nunn (Manchester Metropolitan University, UK), Jessica Marsh, Charlotte Ogden, young authors
Finally, there will be space for a discussion on how the book might be used for teaching and research and any other spaces for researching with young people that might need to be created in the future.
This is an online event and a zoom link will be shared with attendees nearer the time. Please sign-up with the email address you would like the zoom link to be sent to.
