Residency Conversation: A Shifting Model of Publicness
Event Information
About this event
One of Metal’s current artists-in-residence, Dr Zhuozhang Li, would like to start a conversation about the historical transformations of Edge Hill Station and the relationship between community space and the notion of publicness.
Focusing on the questions like how do you make a community space/hub more public and is the notion of 'publicness' shifting in a post-pandemic era? How can community art centres be more public? And what makes a space more public? The discussion will last no longer than an hour on Wednesday 23 February 2022 at 6pm on zoom. There will also be a small number of guests in attendance at Edge Hill Station. If you would like to attend in person please email jenny@metalculture.com.
Dr Zhuozhang Li is a transdisciplinary urban scholar. He completed his PhD thesis at the Centre for Architecture and the Visual Arts (CAVA), University of Liverpool, on the socio-spatial (re)production of publicness in contemporary Hong Kong city and cinema. His research is established at the intersection of urban studies, visual cultural studies and critical spatial theories.
We have also invited some key people who have been involved in projects with Metal over the years including Liverpool Art Prize (2012) winner Robyn Woolston, Mark Sidebotham from Shed KM architects who led on the renovation and studio artist and volunteer for our regular screening night Film Station Adrian Jeans, amongst others.
