Every residential property lawyer will know how important it is to keep fully up-to-date with developments in law and practice and how difficult it can be to actually do so. This session is designed provide an overview of key issues and the practical implications . The actual content may change to reflect the most important issues but may include:

  • Rent Charges: more dangerous than you thought?
  • Identity Checks & Fraud: where are we now?
  • UK Finance Mortgage Lenders Handbook update
  • Consumer Protection Regulations & Conveyancing
  • Japanese Knotweed: Liability of property owner

This seminar is aimed at achieving Competency Statement B Technical Legal Practice: To give an increased knowledge of the subject matter; to update on current issues, case law and statutory provisions and to be able to apply the knowledge gained in the better provision of a service to the client.

Speaker: David Keighley was admitted as a solicitor in 1982. Until his retirement from full time practice in September 2016 David was a partner in and Head of Residential property at Herrington Carmichael a Legal 500 Practice. Having done so part time whilst in practice, he now uses his extensive experience to offer practical guidance in lectures at property law conferences, seminars, webinars, audio seminars, training courses and related events. The feedback received from delegates attending his lectures & courses has been exceptional including the comment “The best speaker I have ever heard”

He is a contributing author for the Law Society Conveyancing Handbook, was the co-author of an online training course for the Law Society’s Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS), is the deputy editor of the newsletter issued monthly by Propertylawuk.net and has written for publications including the Law Society’s Property in Practice Magazine and the Solicitors Journal.


Please note that this seminar will be held in the Ranmore Suite on the Ground Floor at Denbies Wine Estate, Dorking. Registration is from 1.30pm with tea and coffee. The session will commence at 2.00pm and finish at 5.15pm with a 15 minute break at about 3.30pm for tea.
