About this event

Join us in practicing resilience! Expect activities around nature connection exploring the theme of compassion in nature and how this can help cultivate personal, social and ecological resilience.

Includes grounding exercises, exploring the garden, learning about compassion through a mix of independent activities, self-reflection, group work. This half day will be fully outdoors (with shelter in case of rain).

About the facilitators:

Safiya Elgindy (right) is an Ecotherapist and Mental Health Practitioner working with young people in Manchester. She is particularly interested in the ways we can rekindle our sense of belonging as part of nature. Whether that is through helping others connect to nature in the city, holding space for diverse groups, or more personally, remembering what it means to be human and our forgotten deeper connection to each other and the web of life. Currently, she works at a young people’s mental health charity, running a group for young adults to explore their relationship with nature and has set up a year long course across the three realms of practice. Her focus is To resource people and improve their mental health, whilst building healthy community and connection with others and the wider world.

Kate Drake (left) is an Eco Therapist and studied Eco Psychology with Natural Academy for 3 years. I graduated in January 2023. She is a non Muslim woman and have a spiritual practice based on my relationship with the natural world. She currently works as a Health and Wellbeing lead at South Downs National Park and runs a small CIC supporting communities to connect with nature, build their resilience to support their health and wellbeing. She works with diverse communities and provide creative nurturing spaces, including for those experiencing physical and mental health issues, asylum seekers, refugees and carers.

About the Muslim Empowerment Series:

In response to far-right violence, IMI is launching a new series shaped by what our community told us they need: Grief, Resistence and Resilience. Together, we’ll explore healing and collective empowerment through community events, storytelling and nature. Follow us/subscribe to stay up to date.

Thank you to our members who attended the Community Debrief last year to guide this programme, and a thank you to Global Dialogue for funding this crucial work.
