Event Details

The KTN is working with the BBSRC and NERC-funded Global Food Security programme on Food System Resilience (Link) to identify industry needs, concerns and opportunities around resilience of the food supply chain.

The meeting will provide an opportunity to meet leading academics in the field, discuss common problems with industry colleagues and contribute to a white paper for future research themes.

Aim
  • To understand AgriFood industry needs, concerns and opportunities around resilience
  • To build a strong relationship between the KTN-AgriFood Group and the GFS Resilience of the UK Food System Programme for mutual benefit.
Objectives

1. To share latest thinking on the food system resilience

2. To brief the KTN-AgriFood Group on the GFS FSR Programme and its five Projects

3. To identify:

a. Which aspects of the food system the sector feels is least resilient.

b. Which stresses and shocks the sector is most concerned about and whether these are

particular to an individual sector or are cross-sector concerns

c. Areas where research can improve resilience

d. Where the current GFS Projects address specific concerns

e. Any programme of work outside of the GFS projects

f. What further research would be most valuable for the sector

4. To establish a firm foundation for collaboration

Outputs

1. Identify research areas of mutual benefit for the food system industrial members.

2. Inform defra, BEIS, innovate UK and research councils of needs and benefit.

3. Inform the GFS-FSR Programme development and its stakeholder engagement.

4. Frame a follow-up workshop of leading food systems and resilience academics.
