Event description
Screening of the documentary "Resilience: the Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope"

About this Event

The 70/30 Campaign, launched by the charity WAVE Trust, is organising a screening of the internationally acclaimed documentary Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope. This one-hour film is based on cutting edge scientific research into the lasting effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). The toxic stress caused by abuse, neglect, abandonment or domestic violence is known to produce physical and mental health issues which can last a lifetime. Resilience documents the start of a movement that is determined to fight back. Trailblazers in paediatrics, education, and social welfare are using cutting-edge science and field-tested therapies to protect children from the effects of toxic stress.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion and opportunity to discuss the issues that the film brings up. The audience is encouraged to share their experiences in the workforce and to reflect on what changes they can bring about in their own organisations, and the screening presents a great opportunity to create a network of people across Aberdeen committed to tackling ACEs and trauma.

The panel will feature:

George Hosking – WAVE Trust Founder & CEO

  • An economist, accountant, psychologist and clinical criminologist, George has been collaborating with Dr Vincent Felitti, the originator of the first ACE study, since 2007. In 2014, George was awarded an OBE for his work to end child abuse.

Mark McDonald - MSP for Aberdeen Donside

Dan Warrender - Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing in RGU

Information about Adverse Childhood Experiences can be found at: www.wavetrust.org

Anyone affected by these issues can speak to NHS Grampian’s HealthPoint service in confidence on 08085 202030.
