BrumArchitecture Present: Resilience with Urbanist Platform In conversation with CJ Obi

About this Event

Join the Birmingham Architectural Architectural Association on November 11th for Resilience With CJ Obi "How do we attract more Black people into the Built Environment?".

In this 2-part event in collaboration with Urbanist Platform, we will look to explore how we can attract more Black people into the built environment. Aside from studying a course at university, are there other ways we can increase the selection of Black people in the industry? Moreover, even if we can't get equal representation in the industry, should we be looking at more ways to get Black people engaged in conversations about their local area, rather than solely from a career perspective? CJ hopes to address these questions in conversation with Dion Barrett.

Having studied Urban Planning, Design and Management at UCL, CJ has always had an interest in how we can shape cities for future generations. However, after completing his studies, he quickly realised some of the deep-rooted spatial problems in UK cities, were indicative of the built environment industry. Driven by a passion to make places more inclusive for people, through a more inclusive industry, CJ set up Urbanist Platform to attract young people from all backgrounds into the sector. Through in-depth interviews and collaborative content with individuals, CJ aims to empower those in the industry whose values align with Urbanist Platform's; subsequently inspiring the next wave of urban thinkers.

The Birmingham Architectural Association is kindly supported by Allermuir, Ibstock, Allgood, Armitage Shanks, Taylor Maxwell, Delta Light, Milliken, Marley, SKG Kitchen Gallery, Reynaers and Altro.
