Event description

Description

Over the last twelve months, Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has been reviewing the short break and respite services it commissions for children and young people with complex health needs.

There at two services that we are reviewing

  • Ryegate House: Ryegate House is a 6-bed unit available for children and young people aged 2-18 years with complex neurological conditions.

  • Helena Specialist Nursing Team: The respite care nursing team provides home-based respite support for families of children with complex health needs that are under the care of a neurologist.

Through the review, we are considering the following three key aspects of the service

  • The assessment and review process

  • The allocation of provision.

  • The service offer of respite and short breaks

What do we know so far?

  • We want to develop support that is based on need and works for all families in the city

  • We want children, young people and families to have more choice and control and be more involved in the decision making

  • We want to work together with the Local Authority to develop a system to reduce duplication

What could this mean for you?

We are still considering the best way forward and so want your ideas before any decisions are made. The outcome, however, could impact on families in the following ways:

  • Some families will be offered a different allocation of nights over the year than they have had previously. This may mean that some families receive fewer nights than they have previously received

  • Families will be offered a choice in whether to access bed-based provision, a home-based service or a Personal Health Budget

  • Because we want to change the way we allocate nights and offer more choice, the provision offered may be different in future

Who will be at the event?

  • Parents and carers

  • Commissioning and Clinical staff from across Sheffield services

  • Children are also welcome to attend this event
