Event description
Funders and the VCSE in the West Midlands learn, reflect, share thinking and practice to navigate future opportunities and challenges

About this Event

Background

The voluntary, community and social enterprise sector has faced challenging times with an economic downturn, government austerity measures and local public sector cuts, Brexit negotiations and social tensions. The government's civil society strategy, technological and digital advancements are opportunities for the sector to operate more efficiently and effectively, but we struggle to take advantage of them.

So how does the sector continue to adapt and respond to this changing landscape in a climate of reducing funds and increasing demand? How can we re-imagine what we do and how we do it? What could be new ways of thinking and approaches to these challenges and opportunities?

Working together differently

WM Funders Network in partnership with One Walsall and Sandwell Council of Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) have organised this conference to enable funders and the VCSE to reflect on these developments, learn from each other and identify how we can work together differently.

The event, the first collaboration of its kind between the partners, will be introduced and chaired by Rita Chadha, Chief Executive of the Small Charities Coalition and is sponsored by Brewin Dolphin, Charity Bank and The National Lottery Community Fund. Jane Ide, Chief Executive of NAVCA will be the event’s keynote speaker.

It will also play host to five concise breakout sessions on topical funding issues raised by VCSE and WM funding members in late 2019. These include User Involvement (why should funders get involved), Measuring Success (outputs, outcomes and impact), Partnership Working (shared learning and collaborative approaches between funders and the sector), the Value of Data (how digital can help) and Sustainability (what does this mean).

A range of VCSE organisations will also attend the conference to showcase their activities and provide general and bespoke advice to funders. They include the Ethical Property Foundation, Cranfield Trust, Citizen Coaching, Dudley CVS, Wolverhampton CVS.

Who should attend

The conference is designed for voluntary and community organisations, small to medium sized charities and funders of the charity, social enterprise, voluntary and community sectors including public, private and third sector organisations.
