We have seen a particular increase in the number of Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) being brought by employees. DSARs are relatively quick and easy for an individual to make, but for any organisation receiving an DSAR, many hours and significant resources will be needed in order to properly respond. This is particularly so in the context of the employment relationship where much of the data is unstructured and contains data on more than one individual. This in turn creates a particular challenge for employers and HR departments in handling DSARs. They are now far more onerous, time consuming and expensive than when the right to access was first established.
