  • Naana Otoo-Oyortey, Executive Director of FORWARD, working on FGM in the UK for over 30 years
  • Uzma Ali, Home Office FGM Unit
  • Amelia Nice, Barrister, St Andrew’s Hill Chambers

FORWARD is the leading African women-led organisation working on female genital mutilation (FGM), child marriage and maternal health in the UK and Africa. For over 30 years we have been committed to safeguarding the rights and dignity of African girls and women. We do this through community engagement, grassroots partnerships, international advocacy, training and research. A panel of experts will join us to deliver training on various specialist areas of responding to FGM.

We are organising a one-day training course accredited by Open College Network (OCN) and CDP to increase knowledge, awareness and understanding for professionals on FGM. This training is suitable for GPs, midwives, nurses, social workers and key staff at any agency involved in supporting women and girls affected by FGM.

Outcomes
• Understanding the practice of FGM and its socio-cultural context in the UK
• Knowledge of the UK law, safeguarding policies and procedures, professional responsibilities and mandatary reporting
• How to provide sensitive and non-judgemental care and support for women and girls affected
• How agencies and key professionals can work together to respond effectively
• Developing Action Plans for responding to FGM in your setting

Course Cost
£150 including lunch and OCN registration. Fees must be paid before attendance.
