Across Scotland the far right is riding a global wave of anti-immigration sentiment and is increasingly emboldened on our streets. The protests taking place outside hotels housing asylum seekers have platformed racist and outrightly fascist organisations. The appearance of saltires in streets all over Scotland is weaponising our national identity in the service of these dangerous ideologies. Both our immigrant and ethnic minorities feel threatened and communities are dealing with the prospect of growing division. Our educational settings need to be part of a community based response that is rooted in conflict resolution and peace.
Join Educators for Peace for this practical workshop led by Nuzhat Uthmani and Jehan Al-Azzawi. Nuzhat will outline how anti-racist education should be deployed in educational settings to promote an inclusive ethos and policies to empower children and young people. Jehan will provide practical tools for use in any learning environment to facilitate discussion around these themes.
Educators from all sectors welcome and indeed encouraged to attend.
