Overview

Responding Well to Disclosures of Sexual Violence: helping people to support others who disclose an experience of sexual violence or abuse

Who is the course for?

Sexual violence can happen anywhere and to anyone. The reactions and support that survivors receive play an important role in their journey and recovery. Our training aims to improve knowledge and skills so that individuals are best equipped to make a positive difference.

During this 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-Based Violence event (25th November - 10th December 2025) Lifecentre is happy to offer this half-price course as an introduction on how best to support those we know who have chosen us to support them as they make the decision to disclose their experience(s).

#NoExcuse #ACTtoEndViolence.

What does the course cover?

This training will provide participants with an introduction to sexual violence and harrassment and the impact that can have on a person , including why it can be so challenging to disclose these experiences. It will then go on to discuss how to respond well, giving practical strategies on supporting those who disclose. It will end with a brief look of how to care for ourselves as we support others.

Course Objectives:

  • What is sexual violence and abuse?
  • Why do some people find it hard to disclose their experience(s)?
  • How can I respond well if someone discloses that they have experienced sexual violence?
  • How can I take care of myself when supporting a survivor of sexual violence?
