Rest & Grow - yin and sound healing journey
Overview
Rest & Grow - yin and sound healing journey
It is the concentrated, internal force of winter that enables a seed to burst forth in spring growth. Neil Gumenick
In the stillness of winter, we are invited to turn inwards. It is a time of deep rest where energy is collected and conserved in preparation of change and growth to come.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, winter is associated with the Water Element, which governs the Kidney and Bladder meridians or energy channels. Our kidneys store our vital energy give us the drive to overcome obstacles and achieve our full potential. The emotion associated with the season is fear which, when excessive, depletes Kidney energy. The Bladder meridian stores emotional tension and the inability to let go.
We will open with a grounding yin yoga practice, holding postures that target the Kidney and Bladder meridians along the spine and inner thighs, for several minutes gradually opening and releasing tension in the body. This will be followed by the soothing frequencies of a gong bath, slowing down the brainwaves and guiding you into a deeply restorative state that activates the body's natural healing system.
There will be a chance to set an intention for the months to come, if you choose.
Join us in a warm, safe space to unwind, release deeply stored tension and re-set your nervous system.
All levels welcome.
About the facilitators:
Kanwal / Yogabliss
Kanwal’s teaching style is characterised by warmth, intuition and clear communication. Her classes are engaging and inclusive, with an emphasis on deep stretches, slow flows and mindful breathing. She encourages students to go beyond the physical postures and to delve into the transformative philosophy that underlies yoga. Kanwal was drawn to yoga in her 20s as a way of keeping a centre of gravity whilst doing a robust job working on women's rights and social justice and eventually trained with Yogahaven in 2010 (hot, vinyasa) and more recently with Norman Blair (yin). Kanwal has had a regular meditation and qi gong practice since 2017. She currently teaches hatha and yin yoga styles in South London.
Sangeeta Ahuja
Sangeeta brings sound therapy to complement movement allowing for deep relaxation. Breath work and chanting bring harmony and more ease in the body and mind. Gongs rejuvenate, helping release emotional and physical blockages.
A yoga teacher herself with 40 years of personal practice, Sangeeta has found the unique combination of movement followed by stillness and sound allows us to let go in the midst of all that is happening in and around us.
