The session will provide delegates with an overview of the redundancy process from start to finish - giving practical tips and advice on how to manage the process in order to avoid claims of unfair dismissal and discrimination. In particular, the session will cover the following:
- Definition of ‘redundancy’ and what constitutes a genuine redundancy situation
- Redundancy procedure
- Choosing a fair pool and applying appropriate selection criteria
- Duty to consult
- Suitable alternative employment
- Redundancy payments
- Developments in case law/legislation.
About the speaker
Jahad Rahman, Partner, Rahman Lowe Solicitors
Jahad specialises in employment and discrimination law. He advises businesses and senior executives on all aspects of employment law including discrimination, equal pay, whistleblowing, unfair dismissal, redundancy, workforce reorganisation projects, TUPE, industrial disputes and breach of contract claims. He acts for clients in a wide range of sectors including financial services, luxury brands, retail, recruitment, real estate and professional service firms. He regularly advises clients on complex high value bonus disputes, restrictive covenant issues, regulatory issues, high value exits and settlement agreements.
He has experience of litigating in the Employment Tribunal, the Employment Appeal Tribunal, the High Court and the Court of Appeal. He has written widely on employment law issues. He regularly speaks at conferences and seminars and provides bespoke training on employment issues.
