Who should attend?

If you have an interest in Media or Film, you are invited to join us for this film screening. We especially encourage our students (and students from other institutions) to come along to ask questions about the making of the film, as well as enjoying the film itself.

Anyone interested in the subject of the film are also welcome to attend. Leeds Trinity University has recently submitted its application to the Race Equality Charter mark and hopes this film can be used as a resource for the University, and other universities, to develop conversations around institutional racism and unconscious bias.

More information about Re:Tension

Institutional racism, unconscious bias and micro-aggression are apparent in higher education across the UK. Equally, the attainment gap is larger for BAME students than non-BAME students.

Re:Tension aims to highlight what this looks like in real-life, from the perspective of a 19-year-old BAME university student who doesn’t know how to deal with the banter, or insult, they witness.

Following the premiere, it is hoped that Re:Tension will be used as a resource by universities to start a conversation around institutional racism and the impact this can have on retention and attainment for BAME students.

If you’re unable to attend the premiere of Re:Tension but would like a copy of the film once available, please email Hayley Cook, Corporate Communications Manager.
