The Global Institute for Women's Leadership welcomes Professor Michelle Ryan

Rethinking Authenticity and Impostor Syndrome

The Global Institute for Women’s Leadership is delighted to welcome Professor Michelle Ryan (Professor of Social and Organisational Psychology and the inaugural Director of GIWL ANU) for a seminar on authenticity and imposter syndrome.

Popular within workplace gender equality initiatives are interventions that focus on empowering women to be authentic in the workplace and to cure them of their impostor syndrome. While these are well-meaning, they often don’t get to the root of the problem. In this talk Michelle will introduce a programme of work that seeks to problematise the way in which authenticity and impostor syndrome have been approached in the gender equality space - calling for initiatives that address systemic and structural issues rather than trying to “fix” women.
