October's Conversation - Rethinking Burnout: A Creative Perspective
You hear it said, “We’re in a burnout epidemic!”. But what does this really mean? And does burnout show up differently for creatives than it does in education, health, or finance?
In this interactive session, Ania invites you to explore burnout beyond the buzzword. Through personal stories, collective reflection, and insights from her work, she’ll help unpack what burnout reveals about our lives, environments, and deeper needs - especially within today’s complex and often overwhelming world.
Whether you're deep in burnout, circling its edges, or simply curious, you're warmly welcome. Together, we’ll reimagine our relationship to stress, purpose, and rest - and consider how surrender, not just effort, might be the way forward.
As part of the event, we would welcome any first-time visitors to NEA to join us for a brief tour of the building and garden.
About our Speaker
Ania Sharwood – Impact Sweet Spot™ Coach, Communication Strategist &
Songwriter
Ania Sharwood helps mission-driven individuals and organisations communicate with clarity, compassion and impact. With a background in Zoology and a career spanning conservation, human rights, DEI and systems change, her work is rooted in a deep reverence for nature and a commitment to questioning the stories we live by.
Through the Impact Sweet Spot™, Ania guides changemakers to reconnect with their natural strengths, lead from authenticity, and find calm in the chaos. Drawing on training in Deep Democracy, Narrative Coaching, nondual philosophy, mindfulness and the Enneagram, she brings deep wisdom into practical action – helping others find clarity on what’s truly theirs to do. She’s also been a singer-songwriter since age 13 – a creative thread that continues to nourish her process.
About North Edinburgh Arts (NEA)
North Edinburgh Arts (NEA) is a purpose-built, community-owned, creative space in Muirhouse, North Edinburgh. NEA is the place for local residents to relax, explore, learn and get creative together. From art to dance, music to textiles, woodwork to yoga, we offer over 30 hours of workshops every week, with something for all ages and interests to enjoy.
As part of the ongoing regeneration programme around MacMillan Square, North Edinburgh Arts was granted full community ownership of the venue and garden in August 2020, through a community asset transfer from the City of Edinburgh Council, supported by the Scottish Land Fund.
This allowed NEA to lead on the development of the extended creative and community hub for the North of the city, working in partnership with the Council.NEA aims to be the go-to, communal, accessible, shared space for the community in the long term, owned and shaped by those who use it.
The vision is to become the de-facto ‘town square’ where people meet, hear and share news, support one another, develop ideas, celebrate, and console. A place where people connect, feel a part of, and contribute to something bigger.
