Our second cross-sector lab webinar will explore how the Equality Act 2010 continues to evolve - and what this means across education, business, policy and community sectors. We’ll pay particular attention to the impact in schools, while asking: is this the whole picture, or are there wider implications we should be considering?

Why this matters nowThe Equality Act 2010 is up to date as of September 2025 (legislation.gov.uk), and recent guidance and legal rulings are reshaping how organisations respond to equity and inclusion.

Key developments include:

  • Guidance for schools (EHRC, Sept 2023) clarifying duties around sex, gender reassignment, pronouns and facilities.
  • Governors’ guide (Council for Disabled Children, Feb 2025) supporting schools in evaluating provision for disabled learners.
  • Ofsted’s equality objectives (2023–27) emphasising SEND and equity as part of inspection.
  • Supreme Court ruling (Apr 2025) defining “sex” strictly as biological sex, with implications for policy and facilities.
  • EHRC interim guidance (Apr 2025) and local enforcement (Sept 2025) requiring schools to designate toilets by biological sex, with suitable alternatives for trans pupils.

These changes highlight the responsibilities for schools, but also raise wider questions about how we understand and act on equity across sectors.

Your insights from the first session helped us question whether inclusion should remain the guiding principle in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous world. Now, we want to take the conversation deeper - examining equity through the lens of legislation, practice and lived experience.

We’d love your inputTo help shape the discussion, please complete our short pre-session questionnaire.

We hope you will join us at the next Lab to continue building shared insight and practical ways forward.
