Event description
This summer school provides a space for ECRs to network, discuss, learn & contribute to the scholarly discourse in this field of research.

About this Event

We are providing a space for early career researchers (ECRs) and early career academics (ECAs), including post-graduate research students (PGRs), to engage in active discussion about issues concerning international students and the research process in this field. The online summer school will feature a variety of talks and workshops on international student experiences, mobility of students and researchers, and new directions of research. This summer school would also provide the opportunity for ECRs conducting research on the relationships and influences between COVID-19 and the 'international student experience' to share their novel insights in a timely manner.

Information about the UofG Summer School:

The summer school takes place over two consecutive days from 9am to 5pm (London). Each day opens with a welcome address and a Keynote presentation from a knowledgeable scholar in the field of international student research. Keynotes are invited to share their expertise and experience in conducting research in the field, and will present on any related topic of interest which they believe may be educational to the attendees.

Workshops and talks by ECRs/ECAs comprise the bulk of the summer school day. Attendees will choose between one of two parallel-running panels at any given time (there will be no panels during the keynote).

A lunch break is scheduled mid-way through the event, for which attendees will be sorted into breakout rooms but are free to switch off from the session (as desired). Attendees are also encouraged to take advantage of the scheduled wellness breaks from their devices (e.g., do some stretching, grab some water, etc.). Lunch ends with the second keynote of the day, which followed by the second half of workshops and talks.

Each afternoon includes two Masterclass training sessions facilitated by experts to teach a specific research skill. Sessions may include introductions to a particular research method (e.g., Interpretative phenomenological analysis, R stats, creative research methods, etc.) or how to think ‘like a researcher’ (e.g., critically).

Each day officially closes with a concluding address to recap the events of the Summer School day.
