Description

Rethinking Strategic Leadership: Strategic Capabilities for Leaders

Facing a difficult decision where each option promises profits and raises risks, executives remain spell-bound by paradox. Do or don’t – doomed either way. Confronted with such proliferating tensions, executives can feel daunted and sum up their predicament as: “all is changing, only I am the same”.

In the shiny new world of AI, Big Data and unbounded connectivity, some may fear that they are stuck with only their ‘grey matter’. In order to meet demanding shareholders and stakeholders’ goals, executives must continuously seek new solutions. However, many externalise their search by hunting and gathering trendy tools, latest management techniques and quick fixes, when they would be better to reflect with calm. Many executives’ greatest assets: perspectives, patterns and practices, remain uncultivated for too long.

Advanced strategic thinking can help leaders to face a world of paradox and make the right strategic choices even under great uncertainty. Eight strategic capabilities enable leaders to tend their greatest assets and unlock those of their extended teams and organisation to regain competitive advantage.

On 2 July 2019 at ‘Strategic Capabilities for Leaders’ we would like to share the evidence and explore with you which capabilities might be most critical for you:

  • ‘You owe yourself’

  • ‘Really seeing reality’

  • Holding tensions as sources of strategic options

  • Creating context to generate competitive advantage

  • Shifting organisations to their future design.
