Rethinking the Normans: FREE CPD Day for GCSE
Sat 17 June 2017, 09:30 – 15:45 BST
Are you teaching the Normans at GCSE?
While familiar ground for history teachers at Year 7, you may have looked at GCSE specifications and felt daunted. You may then have read some recent academic work and felt even more daunted. You may have realised that what you thought you knew about the Normans was flipped on its head.
This special one-day free event at the Tower of London will do what the Historical Association does best. You will be provided with the latest thinking on the Norman Conquest and related issues from respected academic historians, paired with teaching workshops to show you what cutting-edge teachers are planning and doing with classes that incorporates the latest research.
See Helen Snelson and Ruth Lingard demonstrating the outcomes of a project they carried out with historian Stephen Baxter on the Domesday survey, Richard Kennett and Sally Burnham delving into interpretations of the Norman Conquest, and Richard Kerridge looking at religion and the Church, plus workshops from Historic Royal Palaces taking in the breath-taking Tower of London. All completely free!
