Description
ONLINE TICKETS ARE NOW CLOSED BUT YOU CAN PUCHASE IN PERSON THROUGHOUT THE DAY WHILE STOCKS LAST.
A Photomarathon is a photography competition with a twist: Over the course of 12 hours, you have to take 12 pictures on 12 given topics. It’s not your physical condition, but your imagination and your eye for a good shot that’ll get you through the day. And it's open to all ages and abilities.
We’ll provide the disposable camera. We’ll give you the 12 topics. All you have to do is bring the creativity. Topics are kept secret and announced throughout the day, while you explore the city looking for your perfect shots. Topics are released at 10am, 2pm and 6pm.
After the Photomarathon, your 12 images will be collated, printed and displayed in a public exhibition at Ocean Terminal on Saturday 23rd July until Sunday 31st July. It’ll be quite a collection! And all the work will be judged by exhibting Retina photographers and professional volunteers, with a range of prizes for the winners. You can then take your prints home after the exhibition closes on the 31st.
FAQs
Can I start later? and can I finish before 10pm?
Cameras will be available from 10am, but there will be people on hand throughout the day at Gayfield so you can pick your camera up whenever you want to start. You can then hand in your completed camera as soon as you are finished, but you have until 10pm. The last set of 4 topics will be announced at 6pm.
Are there an age limit to enter the event?
No, it is open to all ages and abilities.
What can/can't I bring to the event?
The disposable camera you are issued with will be what you must complete your photos with, however you are welcome to bring your own camera to practise and prepare with. And you will be out and about all day so please dress accordingly.
What if I accidently take a photo or take one in the wrong order?
Unfortunately we cannot issue replacements. So please shoot with care, it’s part of the challenge being so restricted!
The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?
Yes that's fine as long as we have contact details for who attends on the day so we can notify winners.
Who owns the copyright in the images taken?
The copyright in the images taken remains with the photographer. In entering the competition the entrant grants to Retina the right to use the images in all media in relation to the running and promotion of the Photomarathon. Retina cannot (and will not) pass on, sub-license or sell any images to any third party without your permission.
After the exhibition end on Sunday 31st, all entrants can take their A2 prints home. If you would like them to be posted please get in touch.
