Event description
LDG are pleased to welcome back Lily Holder and Vanessa Abreu for our monthly 'Retreat from Home'.

About this event

'Retreat from Home' is our monthly online event that combines the practices of Yoga and Life Drawing to create a relaxing escape in the comfort of your own home. We hope this will be an opportunity for our students to relax, be playful and enjoy an escape from daily stresses for a couple of hours.

To begin, Vanessa will guide us through a 50 minute yoga practise that will start with the intention to build some energy and heat before we flow through to a more reflective, meditative, relaxing practise. Following our yoga practise, we will take a short break to grab our drawing materials - and perhaps a cup of tea - before settling into a one hour life drawing session. The aim of the drawing portion of this class will be to slow down and focus on playfulness rather than creating masterpieces.

This is a stressful time for many of us, so we hope this afternoon of calm will be a welcome break, a chance to be kind to yourself and an opportunity to reignite your drawing practise.

Both the yoga and drawing portions of this online retreat will be suitable for ALL LEVELS - However, please do get in touch with us if you have any questions about what to expect.

For this session we are joined by the amazing Vanessa Abreu who is both our Yoga instructor and life model. Our drawing tutor for this session is Lily Holder. Find both tutors on Instagram at @fruitinessa and @lilyholder .

Everyone is welcome to join this pay-what-you-can class. We suggest a donation of £10, however we understand that may not be possible for everybody. Please be honest and pay what you can afford so that we may continue to offer our sessions on a donation basis whilst also paying our guest tutors and models a sustainable wage.

YOU WILL NEED:

- Something comfy to wear for yoga. Activewear, leggings, anything you can move freely and comfortably in.

- A yoga mat. If you don't have a yoga mat at home, you can use a beach towel or a carpet as an alternative.

- Some cushions and a blanket to keep you cosy in the latter stages of our yoga flow.

- Paper, we recommend A3 and above to allow for expressive, flowing lines.

- Something to draw with! We love charcoal at LDG but you can also experiment with pencils, pen, soft pastels, oil pastels etc - whatever you have in your home!

ETIQUETTE:

The world of online life drawing is a new to us and we are all still trying to work out how best to keep our life models safe whilst also continuing to support their artistry during this time. Unless otherwise stated, our life models will be working semi-clothed. Please note that taking screenshots or reference images during class is not permitted or appropriate.

This class will be recorded and sent out to all participants an hour after the end of the live class. This recording can be viewed once within 72 hours.

WE HAVE SET UP AN EMAIL WITH THE ZOOM LINK TO ARRIVE IN YOUR INBOX 1 DAY BEFORE AND AGAIN 3 TIMES BEFORE WE START. PLEASE CHECK YOUR JUNK FOLDER.

If you need help with anything please EMAIL us via Eventbrite, or directly at: londondrawinggroup@gmail.com - Facebook and Instagram messages are easily lost.

And that's it! We're really looking forward to you joining us.

Love,

LDG

Organiser LONDON DRAWING GROUP

Organiser of RETREAT FROM HOME: Online Yoga and Life Drawing

The London Drawing Group is a collective of three contemporary artists currently practising in London. Although our practices are individually varied and diverse, we are brought together by our shared love of and passion for drawing, and our experiences of being taught by a huge range of practising artists at the Royal Drawing School Central.

Our aim as a collective is simply to get more people drawing, making, connecting and engaging with art. We genuinely believe that art is for everyone, and that sometimes the only thing keeping people from engaging in the playful, unknown and unpredictable process of art-making, is that it can seem intimidating. Through working to break down contextual barriers through innovative methods of teaching and creating, we hope to make drawing approachable to everyone.
