Event description

Description

The MTPT Project and Flexible Teacher Talent have teamed up to offer three bespoke workshops for qualified teachers in South West London looking to return to the classroom in 2018-19.

If you have taken a break from the classroom and are ready to get back into teaching, these workshops are designed with you in mind. Hosted by Merton Arts Space at the back of Wimbledon Library, the sessions will be baby and toddler friendly so that childcare need not be a barrier to attending. With buggy parking, a break out space, half day sessions and facilitators who are themselves parent-teachers of young children, we hope that you will feel welcome and comfortable exploring these "next steps" with your families.*

*please note: these workshops are open to anyone who has taken a break from teaching, but pre-school aged children (with the noise and interruptions that come with them!) will be in attendance.

Workshop 2: The Application Process

This workshop is scheduled for just after the 31st May resignation deadline when most schools will begin advertising for posts starting in September or January.

Lucy Rose, co-founder of Flexible Teacher Talent, will guide you through the application process to help you decide on the type of school and the role that you are looking for.

  • Researching schools and finding a good fit.

  • Tips on finding flexible and part time vacancies.

  • Ofsted reports and other key documents.

  • Job and person specifications.

  • Application forms and personal statements.

As with Workshop 1, this will be an interactive session providing you with real application practice as well as the time to discuss any questions that might arise.

Details and booking for Workshop 1 and 3 can be found here:

Workshop 1: Developing Subject and Pedagogical Knowledge

Workshop 3: Interviews

About Us:

Flexible Teacher Talent is a volunteer organisation set up in 2017 with the aim of normalising flexible working arrangements in schools. Working closely with Teach First, Flexible Teacher Talent is in its pilot year formalising a structure that will enable them to advise both schools and teachers about the benefits of flexible working as a way of slowing the teacher retention crisis and empowering more teachers to remain in the workforce.

Lucy Rose joined the profession as an early Teach First participant in 2004 as an MFL teacher and progressed to Assistant Headteacher developing fellow colleagues.  She has seen that work-life blend and flexible working are essential ingredients to sustainable teaching.  Lucy is currently on her second maternity leave and during this time she is undertaking research on flexible working as part of the Teach First Innovation Series.  She has a daughter named Neve and a son, Jonah.
