Returned Discussions - Children - Train the Trainer
Event Information
Description
Please note this is a Train the Trainer Event.
Following the recent release of The National Missing Persons Framework, you are invited to attend free training delivered by Missing People in partnership with Shelter Scotland, Barnardo’s Scotland, Police Scotland and Hester Parr as funded by The Scottish Government.
Over 30,000 episodes of people going missing are reported to Police Scotland every year. In 2015/16, that figure was 40,070. Going missing exposes people to unnecessary risks; it impacts negatively on their health and wellbeing; and, in a small number of cases, it can lead to death.
Therefore, through this training, you will learn about the complexities that a vulnerable missing individual may have been exposed to whilst away, understand how to identify, recognise and acknowledge any issues that the missing individual has or is currently facing and how to support the missing individual on their return.
We will equip you with the tools to help you manage return discussions, put positive interventions in place and build on your existing communication skills to help you support missing people.
Who should attend: Police officers, Social Workers, Support Workers, Voluntary sector (anyone working face to face with vulnerable missing children and/or adults)
The Minister
Minister for Community Safety and Legal Affairs at the Scottish Government, Annabelle Ewing, said “The Scottish Government is very pleased to support this partnership to develop training to assist people returning from period of being missing.
“The training will deliver key commitments in the in the National Missing Persons Framework for Scotland, published earlier this year, by helping to prevent people repeatedly going missing through appropriate intervention and support.”
