Event description

Description

Thanks to research, more people are beating cancer than ever before. In the 1970s, only a quarter of people survived. Today, half will survive for ten years or more. Cancer Research UK has been working to beat cancer for more than 100 years. Our scientists have been involved in vital discoveries that have shaped modern cancer care, such as pioneering radiotherapy in the 1920s, developing chemotherapy from chemicals found in mustard gas in the 1940s and playing a role in the development of 8 of the world’s top 10 cancer drugs.

Now, we invite you to go behind the scenes of pioneering research to explore a new era of treatment – personalised medicine, which is changing the way we look at and respond to cancer to make treatment more tailored to the individual.

Join talented and friendly scientists at the CRUK - UCL centre for an immersive 'choose your own adventure' experience in the research labs at the UCL Cancer Institute. Become a researcher for an evening, and get hands-on to investigate how small steps in pioneering research at the CRUK - UCL centre are leading to giant leaps and helping to beat cancer.

Please note that this event will take place inside research labs and is open to people aged 16+.

The activity will last for approximately 1 hour. You can attend in a large group, or in a smaller group (which will split off during the course of the evening).

Sessions begin at the following times: 5.30PM, 6.00PM, 6.30PM, 7.00PM, 7.30PM

Please arrive promptly for your session. Refreshments and nibbles will be provided following completion of the activity.

HOW TO FIND US

The nearest London Underground station is Euston Square - Circle, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan Lines – On exiting the barriers take the exit marked “Gower Street”. At ground level turn left and walk down Gower Street until you reach traffic lights to cross the road. Cross here and continue straight on down Grafton Way. Take the first left onto Huntley Street. Carry on down Huntley Street, until you reach the UCLH Cancer Centre (which is on the right), the Cancer Institute is on the opposite side of the road, as below.

Please look out for signs, balloons and our volunteers on the day (wearing purple t-shirts) who will be there to welcome you.
